Brightside Campus School is a Chapter 766 approved private school divided into
elementary, middle and high school components. The school offers a pre-vocational
and vocational evaluation program and the opportunity for students to participate
in three different vocational curricula. Some students who transition to one
of the community-based residential programs may also have the opportunity to attend
a public school.
An evidence-based, data driven Reading Program is an essential component of
a Special Education School. In Autumn 2006 Brightside implemented the Read 180 program, a research and data driven solution literacy program for struggling
readers. Read 180 is a comprehensive and intensive reading intervention program that is proven
to meet the individual needs of students whose reading is below the proficient
level.
The Read 180 program directly addresses individual needs through adaptive and instructional
software, high interest literature, and direct instruction in reading, writing,
and vocabulary skills. Professional Development and Implementation Training provides
teachers and school leaders the background, teaching techniques, and on-going
instructional support to sustain best teaching practices in the classroom.
The 90 minute instructional model utilizes teacher directed whole group and small
group instruction, as well as computer software and independent reading. Since
implementation, Brightside has seen dramatic results in our students' performance.
Because the content and presentation is interesting, the students are more motivated
to learn, and are more focused and engaged in the learning process. Success tells
the best story, and we are seeing dramatic positive results for many of our children,
with many students advancing several grade levels in reading ability in less than
a single academic year.
